STARDUST Retro Giveaway

I know I promised to announce the giveaway on Thursday. In my defense, I started it on Thursday, but there simply aren’t enough hours in the day. Which is what I’m sure our grandmothers must have thought when they worked from sunup until sundown. Okay, maybe not all of your grandmothers, but I know mine certainly did.

One thing I remember about Granny and Grandma was that they always wore an apron while they worked. Did yours? I suspect it was to protect their house dresses from spatters at the stove, but aprons served many purposes. They were handy to use as a quick dishtowel to dry the hands, and a corner could be used to dry a child’s tears. Any apron worth its salt also had a couple of deep pockets – useful for holding a hanky or to fill with chicken eggs from a straw nest. A pocket might have a stray clothespin or two, bobbie pins, or a recipe card. Smart ladies, our grandmothers. Practical, too.

What might this have to do with the Stardust giveaway? I’m getting to that. Aprons have come into their own, and you can hardly go into a shop or visit Pinterest without spotting a cute apron. So that’s the first item in the giveaway. This comes from Creative Chics. It’s lovely. A lined bodice and sweet ruffles. Even a handy pocket which was described as a way to keep your cell phone handy. NOT your grandmother’s apron! But retro look, for sure.

All cotton, washable. Extra long ties.

Next up, a mixing bowl in a great mustard color that sort of matches the yellow in the apron and in a retro style. This is new so you can use it and not having to worry about breaking an antique. Included in the bowl are some mixes to get you started on some good ol’ Southern cooking. Hushpuppy Mix. A Dirty Rice Kit. And a packet of spices for a shrimp, clam, or crawfish boil. Hungry yet?

No Southern meal is complete without biscuits and jelly, so I’m including a jar of Mayhaw jelly made in Jefferson, TX. You’ll understand the significance when you read Stardust. Unfortunately, you’ll have to make your own biscuits (and not those in the can, please!)

Now that the days are getting warmer, there’s nothing better than taking a glass of iced tea (sweet tea if you’re Southern) to the porch and nibbling on an authentic Southern pecan praline. The giveaway includes 6 individually wrapped pralines handmade at the Jefferson (TX) General Store. I’ll tuck those in a box to keep them safe.

Last, a signed copy of the book that inspired the giveaway. I’m so grateful that people are reading Stardust and saying such nice things about it. And I’d love it if you’ve read it and posted a review somewhere. And drop me a line when you do, okay?

HOW TO BE ENTERED IN THE GIVEAWAY:

You can have your name entered 4 (FOUR) times. You must leave a separate comment each time you qualify for an entry. Here’s how:

1) Post about the giveaway on FaceBook

2) Tweet about the giveaway and include my Twitter name @ChasingLilacs in your tweet.

3) “Like” my author page on Facebook. Don’t worry. If you’ve already liked it, just post that you did, and you’re fine.

4) Sign up in the box at the upper right hand corner here on my website for the Feedblitz updates of my blog. These will normally be a couple of times a week, not every day like they’ve been during the Stardust launch. Then come back to the comments and tell me that you did.

That’s it. FOUR possible entries, and you could be the winner of this Stardust Retro Giveaway. All comments must be on THIS post to qualify (and so I can keep track). Here’s what the giveaway looks like all together. The box will hold the pralines.

Thanks, and good luck!

ADDENDUM!!! I was tired when I put this up and didn’t tell you when the contest ends. Shame on me. OKAY, you have until noon on Monday, May 28 to get your entries in. TEN days and that’s it.

US Residents only due to nature of giveaway.

Now, you can get started! Have a splendid weekend!
