Springtime Lagniappe

Lagniappe – that good ol’ Southern word that means something a little extra. Today it’s a photo fest of the best that’s blooming here in my little corner of the world.

The south corner of our house has been a mess for two years. We’d removed some shrubs that had taken over, planning to replant last summer. We had the biggest drought in recent history last year and never got to it. One instance where procrastination probably paid off as anything planted last year would have struggled to survive. This year we enlisted the help of a professional. Best. Decision. Yet.

Some of my favorite blossoms in the backyard:

Grandma's roses - a stick when I planted them

Close-up of Grandma's roses - These smell divine!

I love old-timey irises, too!

Now, if I can just tackle the rest of the flowerbeds and get the patio planters in good shape, I’ll be able to sit on the patio and enjoy the cool breezes with my coffee. And watch for wall clouds with tornadic potential that crop up with way more frequency than I’d like. Barring those, I might even brainstorm my next writing project.

How is spring shaping up for you? Getting garden fever yet?
