Roll back the rug and strike up the band!

Forty-three years ago today, Max and I went on our first date. Arranged by a friend with ulterior motives, I might add. Our friend wanted to take the girl he was mad about to the movies. And not just any movie, but one in Oklahoma City, and we were OU students living in Norman. Our friend didn’t have a car, but Max did, and Max said he would go if our friend got him a date. Without giving you the play by play, I just want to say that it was the beginning of something wonderful. Two years later I married my best friend, the man who made me laugh, and shared not only my dreams, but also my love for music.

The movie we saw was Hello, Dolly! and we’ve watched it dozens of times on our first-date anniversary since then. We love the singing, the dancing, and all the corny romance.

This year we won’t be watching the movie. Last week Max signed us up for a Sweetheart Dinner and Dance at the club where he plays golf. Either we’ve lost our minds or we’ve entered our second childhood because tonight we’re going dancing!

I can count on one hand the times we’ve actually danced, but we’ve been practicing. The last few evenings we’ve rolled back the rug and turned on the music. Honestly, I’m a little nervous, but excited, too.

Happy Valentine’s Day, sweetheart! And yes, I’d love to have this dance with you.
